BHEGroup provided civil engineering and surveying services for the award-winning design and construction of the University of Oregon’s 52,000 square foot Price Science Library remodel and expansion. The existing 38,000 square foot underground library was expanded with a 4,000 square foot above ground addition incorporating a plaza-level entrance with a social commons cafe and event space. The remodeled spaces allowed for group study rooms, classrooms, data visualization lab, demonstration lab and a makerspace with 3-D printers, a laser cutter, crafting tools and computer software available to all students on campus.
BHEGroup’s civil engineering design included demolition and replacement of the existing storm drain system in keeping with City of Eugene requirements and LEED goals. The building had experienced long-term leakage problems and the new sustainable storm drain system had to remedy the leakage without full replacement of the topping slab structure.
