Portland Public Schools, with approximately 47,000 students in 85 schools, is the largest school district in the Pacific Northwest. In 2012, voters passed an eight-year $482 million school building improvement bond to renovate and rehabilitate schools in the district to renovate and rehabilitate three historic high schools, complete master planning for the three remaining high schools in the district and perform seismic and other improvements to the remaining middle and elementary schools. For Roosevelt, improvements extended throughout the campus with major building demolition and significant building additions as well as reconfiguration of site features such as vehicle and pedestrian ways, bus lanes, parking areas, athletic facilities, plazas and other site amenities.
BHEGroup provided the site assessments for this historic facility. This included review of the existing sanitary sewer, domestic water, fire protection water, natural gas and stormwater management systems to report on condition and capacity, evaluating the feasibility of the extension of the systems and recommendation of any required corrective measures. Our design addressed the extensive utility planning caused by the major redevelopment of the site and the removal, relocation, upgrade and development of new utility infrastructure systems on the site.
