Expanding Your Boundaries Through Outreach

Jamey Montoya, PLS, BHEGroup's Survey Manager shares his experience as a public speaker. "This year, the Professional Land Surveyors of Oregon (PLSO) held their annual conference in Eugene, Oregon on January 20 – 22, 2016. Every year, the conference offers surveyors opportunities to learn more about new trends in the industry, network with other surveyors and support outreach efforts. I was invited to give a presentation, “Expanding Your Boundaries Through Outreach,” on the final day of the conference. Five years ago, I would have never envisioned myself doing any sort of marketing or business development outreach, let alone speaking at the PLSO conference on the topic. By expanding my boundaries, and stretching beyond my comfort zone, outreach to our clients and potential clients became my passion! My presentation touched on the momentary pain associated with growth and how I expanded my network to include students, real estate and title professionals and the general public. Never stop expanding your boundaries, you never know where you will end up. You could be the next speaker at a professional conference or the star business development professional at your company." Good job, Jamey!

Land surveys are hard work!

It's not easy being a land surveyor. This week, BHEGroup's land surveyors were working near Newport, Oregon on a survey for a client's land use application. The weather hovered around 50 degrees with rain and gusty winds. The crew was surveying along Highway 101, a busy tourist thoroughfare. In order to accurately survey the terrain, the crew also had to climb down into a canyon, through the brush. Yet, the crew finished the week with a smile, knowing they had done their job well.
